I have to think this one over. I will say that right at the start, your writing of a 'love' spell that had to be lit on fire to work was intriguing. Heat/passion/fire sounds like positive 'white' witch stuff to me.
For these kind of things, I really believe that the magic itself is not white or black, rather that the intention of the mage is what makes it good or bad.
Thank you for this detailed, thoughtful meditation on magic and what it means to you. Your writing conveys integrity and a commitment to practice over performance.
The framing as magic (spells) as a tool a technology is something I haven't heard before, which turns it into something mechansistic, rather than this mysterious force we are unable to fully understand. I think its a healthy thing to pull the "mystery" out of ot actually. Take all the romantic notions and the Exploitation out of it.
Being an Ecologist and working with systems my entire life, I actually studied and work in the background and with the invisible, people really don't understand that the mushroom you see is just the fruiting body of the fungus. Fungi are a lifeform distinct from animal and plant, they connect the forest plants and trees in an invisible mycelium network moving nutrients and other life giving elements, in return the fungus is given food to survive.
I'm not a practioneer, but I think what I just wrote is analogous to magic.
Although if you want to talk precognition, we'll thats another story.
There were so many aspects of which I wanted to write this from. Historically, scientifically, esoterically, and I just couldn’t conceal everything in such a small post. My greater idea is to write a book one day and include and further elaborate on my “MISUSE” writings. In this case I thought I would just place my personal experience from it, and what I would like to understand magic to be, without counting it as something that is able to be grasped, more-so to be beyond human comprehension, but rather as a notion that we can use a “tool” to invest further in our own spiritual growth and betterment of our personality.
I love your example of the mushroom. I have studied mushrooms, I consume them often( as I am vegan) and constantly research their benefits, but in their “magical” sense I haven’t ever thought of them in such way. It’s a great perspective and thank you for sharing it with me.
Put it this way. If you want to understand magic more study ecology. When I was working in Ecology it's an interdisciplinary subject. I have studied botany, mycology, invertebrates, microbiology, algae terrestrial, marine, and aquatic.

I really appreciate you reading this piece and for making the effort to leave me a comment, it truly humbled me. Thank you 🙏
Interesting. A lot to unpack and comment on.

Everything is connected, all of it invisible.
I didn’t perceive it that way. No worries! I understood your intentions!
